How much do ChatGPT ads cost?

The three ways OpenAI charges, what actually drives your cost per outcome, and why a published rate card is worth less than a fortnight of your own data.

How is advertising on ChatGPT priced?

Three ways, and which one you pick changes your cost more than any bid adjustment will.

Per thousand impressions, where you pay for reach whether or not anyone acts. Per click, where you pay when somebody arrives on your site. And conversion-optimised per click, where the system aims at the action after the click, provided you have given it conversion data to learn from.

It settles through a second-price auction, so you typically pay less than your maximum bid. There is no large minimum spend commitment and campaigns can run on a modest daily budget, which means the cost of finding out is small relative to most marketing decisions.

Why this page does not print a rate card

Because published rates on this channel climb as more advertisers enter the auction, and a number written here would be stale within a year and wrong within two. Confidently wrong is worse than absent — it is the kind of thing a prospective client quotes back at you six months later.

So: ask us and you will get what it costs this week, along with what it costs for your category rather than an average across all of them. That is a two-minute answer and it is free.

What actually drives your cost per result?

Not the bid, most of the time. Four things move the number that matters, which is cost per enquiry or per sale rather than cost per click.

  • How well the offer matches the conversation. A relevant offer earns clicks from people who convert; an irrelevant one buys traffic that leaves.
  • Whether the landing page does one job. Sending conversational intent to a homepage is the most reliable way to double your cost per enquiry.
  • Whether conversion tracking works. Untracked, you optimise toward cheap clicks — which lowers cost per click while raising cost per customer.
  • Category competition. Some sectors are crowded and expensive wherever you advertise, and this channel is no exception.

What should a first test cost?

Enough to produce a readable result, and no more. In practice that means a budget you can run for a few weeks without needing it to pay back inside the first one, because a fortnight of honest data is the minimum before any number means anything.

Below a certain point the test stops being informative — clicks arrive too slowly for a difference between two creatives to be distinguishable from chance, and you end up making decisions on noise. If your available budget is at that level, say so and we will tell you plainly whether it is worth starting yet. Sometimes the answer is to spend it somewhere with faster feedback first.

Is it cheaper than Google or Meta?

Sometimes, and treating that as the reason to advertise is a mistake. A channel is cheap while few advertisers understand it and gets more expensive as they arrive, so any cost advantage is temporary by definition.

The durable reasons to be here are that the intent signal is unusually good and that the operating knowledge compounds — account history, tested creative and a clean measurement setup keep paying after the novelty pricing ends. If the only argument for a channel is that it is currently underpriced, you have a trade rather than a strategy.

What we would rather quote you is a cost per enquiry from your own first fortnight than an industry average from anywhere. Talk to us and that is where the conversation starts.

Common questions

How much do ChatGPT ads cost?

You can buy per thousand impressions, per click, or per click optimised for conversions, settled through a second-price auction so you usually pay under your maximum bid. There is no large minimum commitment. Published rates move as the auction fills, so ask us for current figures rather than relying on a number printed anywhere.

What drives cost per enquiry?

Offer relevance, whether the landing page does one job, whether conversion tracking works, and how competitive your category is. Bid level matters far less than any of those. Untracked campaigns optimise toward cheap clicks, which lowers cost per click while raising cost per customer.

Is it cheaper than Google or Meta ads?

Sometimes, but any cost advantage on a newer channel shrinks as advertisers arrive, so it is a poor sole reason to be there. The durable reasons are the quality of the intent signal and the fact that operating knowledge compounds.
